Francis
and Mary Ellen Britton Cousins Reunion 2011
The
cousins began arriving Friday afternoon and spent June 18th and 19th visiting
at the Community Center in Taylor, Nebraska. They came from Colorado, Michigan,
Nevada, Missouri, Illinois, Washington, Wyoming, Texas, Wisconsin, California,
Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. One hundred five people attended this years
reunion which was a record attendance. This was the 7th annual reunion; Glenn
and Marilyn Britton of San Luis Obispo, California, Bill and Sue Britton of Foxboro,
Wisconsin were hosts for this years reunion and did a great job.
Seven
of Francis and Mary Ellens children took out homesteads on the north side
of the North Loup River. Three are owned today by the Wake Ranch, three by Melvin
and John Hyde and one by the Stevens Trust.
Eight cousins from the J. Albert
Britton branch, 4 from the Robert Efferou Britton branch, seventy-seven from the
Charles Nicholes Britton branch, four from John F. Britton branch, zero from the
Mary Elizabeth Britton-Wirsig branch, seven from the Hulda Jane Britton-Cassidy
branch and four from the Ida Ellen Britton-Ferguson branch attended the reunion.
The
cousins had an enjoyable time spent visiting, touring the homesteads, holding
an auction and picture taking. The Francis and Mary Ellen Britton family still
have an impact on the area as a great, great, great granddaughter Marcia Vodenal
of the Country Neighbor restaurant catered three delicious meals.
The
next reunion will be on the 3rd weekend of June 2013. It will be hosted by Danny
and Judy Britton of Lemore, California.
